Rainy Day Shopping with Son

Son's trip home this weekend was really all about getting Mom's help with his new rental house and adding to his growing collection of furniture. 2 weeks ago he made a big purchase/splurge for himself...a 50" Samsung. A boy's gotta have that big screen. So we have been searching for the right stand to put this TV on. He has it sitting on an old, weak coffee table which I fear could topple at any minute with a Bailey tail wag. We looked at an unfinished furniture store, saw one piece that might work. Then we went to a Lane furniture factory and fell in love with this Eddie Bauer sofa table that would be a perfect tv stand. Same price as unfinished piece. He loved the baskets for hiding DVD's and the shelves for DVD player. Would have bought it, but it wouldn't be in for 2 weeks. Going to see if he can find it Oxford/Memphis area since he goes back tomorrow.

He has had sofa below for 3 years at college, it is still in good condition. We gave him this Lane recliner 2 years ago....still looks good.

Then we were looking for something cheap to cover the large, odd sized window in his living room window. To buy a ready made blind would have been $120, waste of money since he'll likely leave this rental house next May. We found a sage green micro suede swag valance at Bed Bath& Beyond on sale for $15. I convinced him that this was a perfect cheap fix at 40 " wide and 216 " long. I can cut in half and and put a simple rod pocket. They'll cover window perfect for privacy and light blocking. Then we saw 5 X 8 rug below, same shade of sage green but with lots of cream to lighten up the dark man cave. That ate up the savings from the cheap curtain fix.

Next, a stop at TJ Maxx to replace 4 pots and pans, wooden salad bowl, cutting board, new white sheets...650 count (yes, my son is a sheet snob), set of 16 glasses, 12 oz and 16 oz, a table to sit next to his recliner, 2 stoneware casserole dishes, a set of Pyrex bowls with lids, and a few other utensils.

Then a stop at the Ralph Lauren Outlet for 4 pair of Hammond pants and 2 dress shirts.

When I asked him to carry everything in (pouring rain here all day) so I could take pictures of all these goodies to post....he just laughed at me. He just doesn't get this bloggy thing!
