White linen slip finished

My last post showed the beginning of the transformation of this chair.

She’s done.

One more white jewel in the living room. My husband thinks I’m cracking up, slip covering everything. Little does he know it’s only just begun! But for now I’d better clean up the threads, linen scraps, linen dust, (Why does linen make so much dust when you cut it?) and get ready for the Memorial Day weekend.

This slip took me a total 20 hours to make. Shellagh at Ticking and Toile was wondering.

Inspired by Shellagh at Ticking and Toile, again. Her beautiful ~Ruffles and Lilacs~ post spoke to me and energized me to create yet another slip cover.

Shellagh’s beautiful white linen slipcover. She’s making a second one. Shellagh asked me to count the hours it is taking me to make mine.

So here is the metamorphosis of another chair. This is the most comfortable chair, beautiful leather but again adds to all the dark elements in the room.

I took a chance and painted the wood white. Even the oyster shell lamp brightens things up.

Then I decided this wonderful chair needs a white linen slip.

So far, I have the chair back and front done. This, chair back and front, took me at least 10 hours. There’s always a goof here or there that has to be ripped out and fixed. Goofs are time consuming.

Hope to finish the seat up in next day or so.

Look how the other white linen slip covered chair brightens up my dark living room. This chair and the other 2 armless chairs are new. I don’t want to paint the wood, as it goes nicely with the silk that they are upholstered in. I don’t want everything white, I still love dark traditional wood.

And white linen looks amazing with dark woods. Hopefully I have a few more things finished in the room and show the results.

Back in 2008, I posted this about my dream to slipcover these 3 chairs. Finally the chair with the arms is wearing her new white linen slip.

Arms on a chair = difficult slipcover for me. Trying to cut the opening presents a challenge.

Putting the chair on my kitchen table gives the perfect height for working on the gusset and ruffled skirt.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder….

Yes, I have been absent when it comes to blogging. A MONTH of absence! And I have missed ya’ll! This past month has been a whirlwind of cleaning up the yard and having repair work & painting done to outside of my home. We experienced the longest coldest winter temps ever. Everything in my yard that was subtropical was dead! So sad and so much clean up work to do. And I’m so glad it’s finally over.

I have not even attempted to work on any of my never ending slipcovers and other indoor projects. As soon as I get back from vacation in two weeks, I promise I’ll be a sewing DIVA! For me, stepping away from projects and then returning to them is therapeutic. When I’m on vacation this coming week, I’ll be dreaming of white slipcovers. Yes, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

And of course being absent from my children makes me miss them so much! So we will be spend next week with Liz and Dave at the fabulous National Harbor.

We have rented a condo at ONE HABOR PLACE.

On Wednesday night, my birthday, Liz and Dave are treating us to the Lexus Presidents seats at Nationals Park for the game against the Colorado Rockies. We will take the water taxi from National Harbor, up the Potomac, directly to the stadium.

While the boys will be playing golf most days, Liz and I will be mostly shopping and planning for their new home that just bought in the DC/MD area. Yes, joy of all joys, they will be moving out of their tiny hotel type room in the Mologne House at Walter Reed. Their first home to be:

When I reminisce back this past year since Dave’s accident in Afghanistan, I overwhelmed by all that they have gone through. I’m amazed and so proud of all that they have accomplished. They have a wonderful future ahead of them. I miss them every day and can’t to spend a wonderful week with them having fun!

One other fun thing I want to do in DC is go to the 2010 DC Design House. I’m ready for some fabulous inspiration and want to come home with dozens of creative ideas floating in my head.

I love slipcovers and having been making them for my home for the last 2 years. It’s all part of my WHITE & LIGHT project that I’ve been working, for 2 years! I’m no expert and every one I make I learn a little more through trial and error. I got so many more chairs, etc. I hope to slipcover, if only I had more time!

I have SLIPITIS really bad, there’s no cure. I’m planning to slip just about everything in my home!
